Souvenir Ideas for Your Beach Wedding

Mementos to commemorate a momentous occasion are always a wonderful thing, but beach wedding
souvenirs can be even more fun and whimsical. Think tropical. Think beachy. Think fun!

It could be anything from nautical wine stoppers, luggage tags, coaster sets, pillows or beach bags, to
personalized pilsner or stemless wine glasses with etched starfish or sand dollars. Or choose from a
miniature beach chair photo frame, a palm tree bottle opener, an anchor, flip flop or pineapple charm, a
tropical key chain or sea scene gel candle.

Or go for fun with a functional twist and choose anything from personalized wedding sunscreen or
sunglasses, to a beach fan to keep your guests cool during the ceremony, to flip flops that they can wear
during the beach portion of your wedding.

Maybe you are thinking something a little more elegant, such as a silver scallop that opens to chocolate
truffles, a gold compact or sea stone jewelry that is both beautiful and unique.

It can be almost anything you can imagine. The world is your oyster! For more souvenir ideas or any
other help with wedding planning, call Central Florida’s trusted source for beach wedding planning –

Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in NASCAR, is Daytona’s largest and most celebrated event of the year. There are hundreds of merchandise and food vendors outside the racetrack and spectacular pre-race entertainment on the field. This recently renovated race venue also hosts the Coke Zero 400 July 4th weekend, the Country 500 Festival with live performances from some of country music’s biggest stars throughout Memorial Day weekend, and so much more!

If music is your thing, don’t worry. Daytona offers a variety of options, including the three-day Daytona Blues Festival in October, and Daytona Beach Bandshell, a scenic, historic music venue providing free beachside concerts throughout the year.

Daytona Beach is also famous for its motorcycle rallies, when Main Street is filled with the low rumble of hundreds of bikes, the sound of live bands and vendors galore. There’s Bike Week in March and Biketoberfest in the fall.

Sports enthusiasts can take in a Tortuga’s baseball game throughout the season at the Jackie Robinson Ball Park. Festivals account for a lot of the fun here in Daytona too. There’s the Celtic Festival, Fiesta Italiana, the Greek Festival and Festival of the Arts. Halifax Art Festival, the second oldest continual art festival in Florida, featuring hundreds of artisans from across the country in early November is also a must-see. Later in November, on Thanksgiving weekend, Daytona Beach hosts the largest classic car show and swap meet in the United States – the Turkey Run.

The holidays are also a magical time. Just for instance…the Stetson Mansion Christmas Spectacular goes all out with gorgeous display. Then, ring in the New Year with an extravagant New Year’s Eve Celebration on Main Street.

Daytona Beach – One of Florida’s Most Beautiful Beaches

Twenty-three miles of gorgeous white sand beaches line the shores; porpoises frolic in the sun-glistening waves; and beautiful luxury condos pepper these famous shores. It’s indisputable. Daytona Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida!

Tourists flock from miles around to visit the beaches of Daytona – so aptly located smack in the middle of “The Fun Coast.” Daytona Beach offers the best water sports around. Try paddle boating or kayaking. Jump some waves on a jet ski, or catch some waves with your board. Go fishing in the ocean or on the backwater, or “boat-hop” to your favorite seaside restaurant for lunch.

Speaking of food, Daytona Beach is teeming with terrific options for dining. If you’re in the mood for a good steak, try Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse. Have a tropical drink overlooking the water at Crabby Joes or Caribbean Jack’s. Don Vito’s whips up some great Italian fare, and if you like fine wine with dinner, you definitely need to dine at The Cellar.

Daytona Beach provides some great beachside shopping, challenging golf courses, exceptional views of the inlet at Lighthouse Point, racing thrills at Daytona International Speedway, and the Marine Science Center offers an interactive adventure that’s fun for the entire family.

There are also so many interesting places to visit all around Daytona Beach. It is a short ride to Orlando for fun at Disney, Universal or the Epcot Center. St. Augustine will win your heart with its historic charm, and Kennedy Space Center is also nearby.

Considering Daytona Beach as the spot for your destination wedding? Great idea! Affordable Beach Wedding, Central Florida’s premier beach wedding company, can turn your Daytona Beach wedding dreams into reality.

The History of Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach was once inhabited by Timucuan Indians. Disease and war wiped out the Timucuans in the 18th Century. The Seminole Indians then occupied the area now known as Daytona Beach until the 2nd Seminole War.

America was under British rule from 1763 through 1783. In fact, the “The Kings Road” actually passed through present day Daytona Beach during that time. Spain regained Florida after the American Revolution.

Then, in 1804, the Spanish Crown granted a man named Samuel Williams 3,000 acres, encompassing the area that would one day become Daytona Beach. Williams built a slave plantation that was burned down by the Seminoles during the 2nd Seminole War.

In 1871, Mathias Day, Jr. of Mansfield, Ohio, purchased a 2,144.50 acre tract of land from the former Williams plantation. Although Day fell on hard times and lost the land, residents decided to name the area Daytona and incorporated the town in 1876.

Then, in 1902, the race craze began. The wide, smooth, compacted beach in Daytona attracted auto and cycle racers from far and wide. Land speed record attempts began in 1904 when William Vanderbuilt set a record of over 92 mph. By the 1920s, Daytona was dubbed “The World’s Most Famous Beach.”

In 1926, Daytona, Daytona Beach, Kingston and Seabreeze merged into what we now call Daytona Beach. Malcolm Campbell, a well-accomplished land speed racer, set a record of over 276 mph at the end of Daytona’s land racing days in 1935. Vehicles are still permitted on most beach areas to this day, but, sadly (or not so sadly), maximum speed is now merely 10 mph.

In 1936, the first stock car race was held, and in 1958, William France, Sr. and NASCAR created Daytona International Speedway. Today, Daytona hosts various world famous events, including the Daytona 500, Coke Zero 400, Bike Week, Biketoberfest and the Turkey Run – America’s largest classic car show; and Daytona Beach is one of our country’s most popular vacation destinations.

Daytona Beach Events

Daytona Beach is full of fun and excitement all year long…

If you are a race fan, Daytona International Speedway is a must see. This spectacular and recently renovated venue is home to the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race in NASCAR. The largest combined car show and swap meet in the United States is also held at Daytona International Speedway. It’s called the Turkey Run, and it showcases over 6,000 vintage classic, muscle and race cars and trucks for show and sale, over 2,500 swap meet spaces, plus food and entertainment!

Daytona Beach is also famous for its motorcycle rallies. The streets are filled with the sound of live bands and the low rumble of hundreds of bikes during Bike Week in March and Biketoberfest in the fall.

Art and music are also a big part of Daytona Beach events. Halifax Art Festival, the second oldest continual art festival in Florida, features hundreds of artisans from across the country in early November; and Daytona Beach Bandshell, a scenic, historic music venue, provides free beachside concerts throughout the year. Daytona is even known as the “Festival Capital of Florida” because so many festivals, including the Celtic Festival, Festa Italiana, the Greek Festival and Festival of the Arts are held here.

Daytona Beach is a great place to be during the holidays too. Take a holiday tour, and ring in the New Year right with an extravagant New Year’s Eve Celebration on Main Street.

New Smyrna Beach History

Nomadic Native Americans roamed the New Smyrna Beach area for 10,000 years before the arrival of Europeans. The first European visitation was during the Spanish Colonial Period from 1565-1763, when missionaries were sent to convert the Indians to Catholicism. The British acquired Eastern Florida in 1764.

Then, New Smyrna Beach became the site of the largest single attempt at a colonial settlement in the United States. Scottish physician and entrepreneur Dr. Andrew Turnbull obtained a land grant from the British Crown, and in 1768 established a colony of 1225 and coastal plantations yielding corn, indigo, hemp and cotton. Turnbull’s colonists, plagued by disease, fled to St. Augustine in 1777. The Spanish reclaimed Florida in 1784, but they had difficulty maintaining control of the area, and the United States established the territory of Florida in 1821.

In the following 20 years, several large plantations in the area which is now New Smyrna produced sugar, but those plantations were attacked and destroyed during the Seminole War which ended in 1842. Resettlement began after the Civil War, and with a population of 150, New Smyrna was born. Flagler’s Railway spurred the economy which was based on tourism, citrus and commercial fishing. In 1920, population reached 2492 and the principal areas of business were Canal and Faulkner streets. During Prohibition, also in the 1920s, the city and its river islands were popular sites for moonshine stills and hideouts for rum-runners who came from the Bahamas through what is now Ponce de Leon Inlet. After the Great Depression, the area did not recover until after WWII and the city of New Smyrna Beach was incorporated in 1947.

Today, New Smyrna Beach is a charming beachside town with over 20,000 permanent residents.
