Daytona Beach continually offers up some great beachside fun in the sun and a myriad of entertaining events and activities; but believe it or not, Daytona Beach is not just Florida’s Festival Capital, one of the most famous vacation destinations in the world and home to The World Center of Racing. It also houses a wonderful selection of fascinating museums…
Since we are talking Daytona Beach, you don’t want to miss the Living Legends Auto Racing Museum. If you are a race fan, you are in luck because this bad boy is dedicated to stock car racing and the stout-hearted history makers who made it famous!
Then there is the Halifax History Museum, which brilliantly showcases local history all the way from 5,000 BC to just yesterday, all within a historically significant venue – the old Merchant’s Bank Building.
An outgrowth of the Photography Program at Daytona State College, the Southeast Museum of Photography shares continually updated photography exhibits, holds film screenings, hosts interesting speakers and provides educational opportunities.
However, in this writer’s opinion, other museums can’t hold a candle to Daytona’s Museum of Arts and Sciences (MOAS). MOAS is one of the largest museums in Central Florida, brimming with over 30,000 items! It is also an affiliate of the world-renowned Smithsonian Institute and holds planetarium shows, is host to cool, interactive events and exhibits and offers a Summer Learning Institute. An especially engaging portion of the museum is dedicated to children, and this unique venue can even be rented for special occasions such as weddings!
